Renzo Gracie and Igor Gracie have landed in some serious trouble following a night out on the town. Reports have surfaced first from the New York Post, that Renzo Gracie and Igor Gracie were both charge with gang assault along with others, as well as both Gracie cousins being charge with 2nd degree assault. They are currently being held on $10,000
bail and awaiting arraignment.
The victim, 35 year old club bouncer Craig Moesphini, suffered minor fracture along with bruises and cuts, sources said. The altercation took place at New York night club 1 Oak, the night club is located within a mile of The Renzo Gracie Academy. There are minimal details concerning what cause this altercation between Renzo, Igor and five others after the arrests we made. Sherdog was able to obtain a eyewitness account:
“According to the witness, Gracie arrived at the club in a group of approximately seven men and immediately went to the front of the line.
Gracie then became involved in a confrontation with what the witness described as the doorman. Things escalated from there, as Gracie’s group allegedly squared off with a group of 1-Oak bouncers. According to the witness, Gracie at one point had the doorman in full mount, while another one of his group hit a different bouncer with a construction cone.
The fracas spilled into the street, with more punches being thrown. Eventually the police arrived and arrested everyone in Gracie’s party, while an ambulance came for the bouncer who had been mounted by Gracie, according to the witness. It was unclear as to why Gracie and his group were originally upset.”
After the arrests were made be responding officers, Fox Sports’ Marc Raimondi reported the famed Jiu Jitsu fighter and his cousin could be facing up to 15 years in prison if convicted. Removed from active competition Renzo Gracie is a known MMA and Jiu Jitsu coach for many top athletes and continues to make appearances at Jiu Jitsu events(The Jiu Jitsu World Expo) and seminars. This is a definite blow to the family if Renzo and Igor are charged with committing these crimes.
